Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for Electrical Appliance for Commercial Dispensing and Vending.
BIS Amendment Order for Electrical Appliance for Commercial Dispensing and Vending
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) has issued the Electrical Appliances for Commercial Dispensing and Vending (Quality Control) Order, 2025 on 20th May 2025, superseding the earlier 2024 Order. This update grants extended timelines to manufacturers for aligning with the mandatory BIS certification requirements under IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 75): 2018.
Key Highlights:
● Applicability: Covers electrical appliances used for commercial dispensing and vending.
● Standard Compliance: Products must bear the Standard Mark under a BIS license as per Scheme-I of the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018.
● Enforcement Authority: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
Revised Implementation Timeline:
● Medium & Large Enterprises: 1st October 2025
● Small Enterprises: 1st January 2026
● Micro Enterprises: 1st April 2026
Notable Exemptions:
● Goods manufactured for export
● Up to 50 imported units annually for R&D use (non-commercial; must be scrapped)
● Manufacturers must maintain records of R&D units and furnish on request
Non-Compliance:
Any violation of this Order will attract penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
This phased approach aims to support industry readiness while ensuring product safety and compliance with Indian standards.
