BIS QCO for Boric Acid
On May 16, 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, through its Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, issued the Bureau of Indian Standards (Standards for Boric Acid) Order, 2019. This order is aimed at ensuring strict quality standards for Boric Acid, with a focus on consumer safety and product reliability.

1. Title and Effective Date
This regulation is formally titled
the Bureau of Indian Standards (Standards for Boric Acid) Order, 2019, with the
following timeline for compliance:
- The order became effective on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, May 16, 2019.
2. Compliance with Standards and
Use of the BIS Standard Mark
Under this regulation, Boric Acid
must conform to Indian Standard IS 10116:2015 and must carry the BIS Standard
Mark (ISI Mark) to signify compliance:
- Manufacturers must obtain a valid license
from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to use the ISI Mark, verifying
that their products meet the required quality standards.
- This requirement applies to Boric Acid produced for the domestic market. However, products manufactured exclusively for export are exempt if they meet the importing country's specifications.
3. BIS as the Certifying and
Enforcing Authority
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the designated authority for certifying and enforcing compliance with this order. Additionally, BIS may appoint an officer, at least of the rank of General Manager of the District Industries Center in the Department of Industries of the State Government, to act as the enforcement authority.
4. Penalties for Non-Compliance
Non-compliance with the Bureau of Indian Standards (Standards for Boric Acid) Order, 2019 will result in penalties as outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. These penalties are intended to enforce adherence to the specified standards, ensuring product quality and consumer protection.
