The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, has announced an important update for battery producers under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.
Following a request from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) dated January 10, 2025, the Ministry has extended the deadline for filing annual returns for the financial year 2023-24 to March 31, 2025. This extension was granted in response to CPCB's recommendation and is in line with sub-rule (6) of Rule 13 of the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022.
Previously, through orders issued on July 10, 2024, and November 12, 2024, the deadline had been extended to December 31, 2024, from the original due date of June 30 as prescribed under sub-rule (11) of Rule 4.
The CPCB
highlighted the need for more time for producers to comply with the filing
requirements. Considering this request, the Ministry exercised its authority
under sub-rule (6) of rule 14 of the
Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, to grant the extension.
● The government is committed to
supporting industries in complying with environmental regulations while
ensuring efficient waste management practices.
●
Producers should utilize
this
extended timeline to prepare and submit their returns without further delays.
● Compliance with the Battery
Waste Management Rules is crucial for sustainable management of battery waste,
reducing environmental impact, and fostering a circular economy.
This extension
reflects the government’s proactive approach in addressing practical challenges
faced by stakeholders while upholding environmental priorities. Battery
producers are encouraged to act promptly to meet the new deadline!
