Important update for all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Steel and Steel Products (Alloy Steel Billets, Blooms and Slabs for Forging for General Engineering Purposes) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
The Ministry of Steel has issued this Quality Control Order (QCO) under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.
This new Order replaces the earlier 2020 QCO and has come into force from 5th February 2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette. Any work already started under the earlier Order will remain valid.
This notification applies to Alloy Steel Billets, Blooms and Slabs for Forging for General Engineering Purposes, which must now follow the Indian Standard IS 4368:1967. From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:
Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018
Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer
Products made only for export are exempted from this requirement, as long as they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order.
Non-compliance with this Order will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Any future revisions or amendments made by BIS to this Indian Standard will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
