Do you wish to get the ISI mark certification for your products? If so, then you have landed on the right destination where we will help you with every small procedure and requirement for ISI/BIS certification. Not to mention India has always been the most trusted and favorable destination for foreign as well as domestic manufacturers. Mainly because of globalization, as it unfolded the world economy for import-export, selling products in different countries, manufacturing, and many more.
India, the fastest developing economy, has also invited many domestic and foreign companies to manufacture and sell products to consumers. There are many popular companies like Xiaomi, Foxconn, Samsung, and more that have already started manufacturing and others are in the discussion phase to invest hugely in manufacturing.
But similar to other countries, India has also set some rules and standards so that consumers are able to receive trusted and quality assured products. You can never sell products directly to consumers without meeting the standards and compliances set by the Indian government. This is where the ISI mark scheme comes into the picture where manufacturers get product certification by the Bureau of Indian Standards. Today there are a total of 374 mandatory products that need ISI certification.
In simple words, ISI Mark or the Product Certification Scheme was introduced with a goal to offer quality, safety, and reliability assurance to the customer. It is a mark that was launched to certify industrial products in India. With BIS/ISI Mark you get to tell your consumers that the product conforms to the Indian standards. The Licence number of the ISI mark consists of CM/L-xxxxxxx that can be found at the bottom of the ISI mark.
Not only that but you also get access to the Indian standard number that is displayed above the ISI mark. It is rewarded by the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards), the national standard body of India with an assurance that the products marked as ISI certified can be easily sold and brought with the assurance of better quality and security.
BASIC CRITERIA FOR BIS CERTIFICATION:
The essential prerequisites for acquiring a BIS licence are outlined in the table below.
1. The product must meet the requirements of the Indian Standard Specification.
2. Only the factory (maker of completed items) is granted a BIS licence, not the distributor/retailer.
3. If a company has many factories, each with its own geographical address, the company must file a separate application for each product and factory site.
4. To test the product in compliance with the applicable ISS, the laboratory should be fully equipped with product testing equipment as well as qualified quality control personnel.
5. According to ISS and SIT, all manufacturing machinery and testing facilities should be situated on the factory premises.
6. From receiving raw supplies through final packing, all activities should be completed in the same factory. If any out-sourcing is required, the Bureau's approval may be required.
7. Technical guidelines are supplied as 'Product Manuals' for all products covered by the Product Certification Scheme. Sampling instructions, a list of test equipment, a Scheme of Inspection and Testing (SIT), a description of scope, and other information can be found in product manuals. Applicant can use this BIS Certification Product Manual to prepare for the audit and application submission, reducing the risks of rejection.
Companies and their products can easily achieve the following benefits with BIS - ISI Certificates:
1. Obtaining customer confidence
2. Assuring Consumer Health
3. Consumers are informed that the product is safe and does not pose a threat to their health.
Do you know that in India, BIS-ISI certification is required for over 150 products? Despite the fact that obtaining a BIS certificate is voluntary, the BIS has made it mandatory to obtain the certificate for specific products in order to protect customers from counterfeits and fraudulent merchandise. There are many requirements under the BIS - ISI Certification, which are essentially categorised into two types:
Mandatory Certification: The BIS Certification is required, and it involves a factory inspection.
Voluntary Certification: BIS Certification is available on a voluntary basis in order to gain consumer

By now you must be having a detailed idea about why it's important for you to get ISI registration for your products. Steps that take place under this procedure are the following:
1. First, the applicant must prepare for the BIS Certificate requirements, which include establishing in-house labs and creating items in accordance with Indian Standards, as well as other relevant documentation.
2. Following that, the BIS representative will inspect the items as well as the factory/industry.
3. Following the completion of the inspection, the sealed samples of the items are forwarded to BIS-approved laboratories for testing.
4. If the product passes all of the test requirements, it is certified by the BIS, which issues the BIS certificate for Indian manufacturers 35-40 days after the application is submitted.
This BIS Certification procedure is substantially quicker than the standard procedure.
1. Initially, the applying party must submit a report detailing the samples that have already been evaluated and approved by BIS in accordance with Indian Standard.
2. After that, the applicant must submit an application, as well as the BIS Certification Fee and other relevant papers.
3. During the examination of application paperwork, a BIS officer will inspect products as well as the factory/industry.
4. Following the completion of the inspection, the sealed samples of the items are forwarded to BIS-approved laboratories for testing.
5. The certificate is then provided by the BIS within 35 to 40 days after application if it has been verified and authorised according to the recommended requirements.

The BIS Certification application has a highly specific and generic documentation requirement, which includes:
1. Product-specific laboratory test reports
2. Documents Relating to Factory Registration
3. Flowchart of the manufacturing process
4. In-house Testing Facilities
5. Authorized Signatory information and any associated materials
Finally, if a product falls under the scope of the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme, it is mandatory for makers or importers to get BIS - ISI certification.
